Rehabilitation

 Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation or more commonly known as rehab, is a very well-known remedy for treatment of people who have suffered any form of mental, physiological, or emotional trauma of any sort. So, what exactly is rehab? And how do the traumatised benefit from it? Rehab is a form of intensive care provided to the people who have lost their ability to live in a healthy environment.

Note when I say ‘healthy’ here, I am referring to the social, mental and physical well-being of the person, not just the physical. For that, I would have used specific language, like ‘sanitised’, ‘hygienic’, etc.

Coming back to the main topic, why do these special people need rehab? Well, there can be multiple reasons that a person needs rehab.

The first can be that the person has just gone through a very traumatic experience and is unable to fend off the haunting memories of that particular encounter/experience. This hinders his capacity to work efficiently in the society, thus making him a major liability. Rehab plays a crucial role in reconstructing the victim’s current state of mind and helping him cope up with his distress.

Mental health counselling can work wonders if you are in such a situation. It helps in easing your conscience and helps you feel at ease when you are in distress. A mental health expert is extremely beneficial for you, as he recommends some tips and things which can ultimately lead to your better mental health. What’s more, you can also open up with him, for he also acts as your de facto counsellor.

Whenever the term ‘mental health’ comes to mind, I usually think of our psychological well-being. But the meaning can be both metaphorical as well as physical. Emotional well-being being one such example, it is the state of total control over one’s emotions and when the person in question is not feeling any sort of distress or agitation. Emotional well-being can be achieved by ensuring a mentally healthy lifestyle; by indulging in activities that please you and make others around you respect you more. Respect is another way to make yourself emotionally healthy. The more respect you get, the more happy you become, thus correcting my argument.

‘Physical health’ means the well-being of your physical self, i.e your body. Thai can be done by doing a lot of exercise and practising various forms of rigorous physical training, like cardio, biking, etc. physical health, along with psychological and emotional health, are the bulwarks of what we call the ‘optimum human body’. In order to maintain this, we need to keep on pushing and keep on persevering.
