Life Choices
LIFE: A BIG WHEEL OF VICES
Have you ever wondered; do you really want to become what you want to become in your life? I mean, human lives are sacrosanct (ask the people who believe in astrology), so why would people waste it on something worthless, or something which is not going to be a whole lot productive in the long run?
Actually, the wheel of life is a lot more intricate than most people imagine. Wait, how are we even sure that life is a big old wheel? It can be a line as well, don’t you think? Well, there’s a reason why we have termed life as a wheel. Do you experience some moments in your life when you feel like, "Didn’t this stuff happen before?” Well, this feeling is something called déjà vu. So, if we experience similar moments multiple times in a single life, we can say that life is a wheel, right? Now, here is where choices come in…
Let’s go back to our imaginary wheel. Can we branch it off? Obviously not. It’s a circle, duh. Then how come we can choose what we become, and it creates a paradigm shift in the whole trajectory of our life as it progresses? Well, I don’t know the answer to this question, but I do know one thing: life is a daily choice, which you have the choice to either make or not to make.
I know, this just took on a whole new level of confusion. But what I am saying is true. Some people spend their whole lives trying to find their one true purpose and end up doing nothing more than forsaking what they already had. There are people as well, who are unsure of whether they are doing what they feel is right for them. And some people deliberately ruin their lives, just to make the lives of other people miserable, something which the locals would call ‘revenge’.
A man’s / woman’s life choice is influenced by many factors. They can be either multiple in number, or only one. for most of the human populace, their main incentive is bread-earning. Almost every man/woman has the responsibility of earning money for his / her family. But, my question to these people is: are they happy with their life? Are they satisfied with their minimal sustenance lifestyle? Didn’t they ever wish for big jobs? Didn’t they ever plan out for their future when it mattered the most? If they did, where did they fail to follow through on their plans? Now, here’s a bit of irony; the men who have achieved tremendously in their lives, wish to live life like a normal person. Why? Honestly, this is kind of a juxtaposition. People who have achieved what they wanted now want to live like a normal person and on the other hand, the normal man wants to live like a wealthy elite. Why is it that we always have some craving, some sort of desire inside of us, which is never fulfilled, and if it is indeed fulfilled, then morphs into something grander?
Mind you, I’m just a teenager, so a billion thoughts are racing through my head, at the speed of a kamikaze plane. So, you can’t blame me for asking so many holistic questions. Now, back to the hot topic. I am young, but even I understand one thing: people are very unhappy. They are unhappy about anything, either material or psychogenic. They are unhappy about diseases, unhappy about poverty, unhappy about not having something, unhappy about marriage, unhappy about things that are not to be sad about. I’m not asserting that people are always unhappy, but what is such a compulsion to always find a cause for unhappiness?
I’m a real-life example. I’m always fretting over unnecessary things, like the time when I’m not studying, I grow panicky and agitated. But a few years back, I was perfectly content with not having to study constantly 24/7. What caused this turnaround? What compelled me to be such a try-hard? Well, I believe it was because of the circumstances outside. Covid had been running rampant across the nation like an untameable and wild elephant, who got pricked by a twig! The State had imposed a lockdown on the whole country, and my metamorphosis into a bookworm commenced.
Back to the topic, I would just like to say, whenever adverse situations come knocking at your door, analyse your options at hand, plan accordingly, and then implement the action plan. Or you apply the all-time-famous hybrid combination of intuition and analysed planning structure of thinking used by managers. Just… don’t mess up your choice, you only get a few.
This captures the essence of human contemplation about purpose and happiness........ It's a reminder that while life's wheel may seem to spin us through similar experiences, the choices we make and our responses to them define our unique journeys... Keep questioning, reflecting, and exploring the ideas....
