My Professional Ambition
My Professional Ambition
Everyone wants to become something when they grow up. For example, a student who has a keen interest in studying medical wants to become either a doctor or some other professional related to the same stream: medicals; someone who has this childhood fantasy to uncover ancient secrets and fossils, study artifacts or go deep into the earth can become one of the following:
Archaeologist
Palaeontologist
Scholar
Historian
My family is very cultured and humble by nature. Ever since my childhood, if there's one thing I have learnt from my parents, it's this: "always do what you think is right according to your perspective. Whatever you do, we'll always be there to support you, no matter what." I still remember what they said to me and this helped me mould my confidence. This advice will surely help me soon.
Sometimes, what you aspire to be, the thing you are passionate about is influenced by many other surrounding factors. Something similar happens to me about every day. I see various beggars, homeless people, tenants who don't have any money to pay for their house rent. Every day, I grow more and more passionate about helping these backward and unprivileged groups. This profession, as many of you must've known, is called philanthropy.
But what I want to become is a doctor. Now, I know, this term is pretty much an encapsulation of the various types of medical practitioners that are there in this profession. So… what I want to become is related to one of these medical practices.
To be honest, there are tons of them… but I know a few of them. One is an obstetrician, a doctor who specialises in delivering babies. Another is a gynaecologist, who specialises in treating ailments in women. There is also a gerontologist, a doctor who practices treating old age diseases. There are many fields, to list a few.
Even one of my family members is a practitioner of the medical sciences. My uncle, from the paternal side, is a surgeon. Honestly, I was always first into palaeontology, but seeing my uncle, I was inspired to become a doctor. I don’t know why I chose what I want to become, but I know this… seeing my uncle save lives… I think I wanted to do the same.
Money is nothing but a means to keep your family sustained, buy some lavish items and live life to the fullest (in terms of materialistic possessions). A doctor, in my psychology, is someone who saves lives or helps in the birth of new ones.
A doctor should mainly focus on his trade, not on other tasks. Human life is sacrosanct. It should be preserved as long as possible. That's what I think about all humans. Now it's not my concern whether they loot, pillage, destroy and kill. It's because many criminals have this kind of mindset. But what does this have to do with what I'm writing; you must be thinking. I will tell you. Doctors have the most arduous responsibility. It is often said, "taking a life is much easier than saving one". Do you know why? Because doctors put all their practice, their knowledge and skills to use to save one single life.
These are the reasons I want to become a doctor. A doctor is one of the coolest, the most awe-inspiring and a very noble profession.
Impressive command over language to be able to express your thoughts in such a confident manner. You seem to have a strong vocabulary so I would encourage you to continue writing as it provides a great outlet for your emotions, creativity and critical thinking.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your deep respect for your parents and the lessons they have taught. Family will always be your strong roots to help you grow in life, no matter what profession you pursue.
Since you've expressed interest in the medical sciences, I highly recommend this book - 'When breath becomes air' by Paul Kalanithi. He was a Neurosurgeon at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and this book is his deeply personal memoir on family, medicine and literature. It does have a serious undertone, but could be equally inspiring. Irrespective, continue pursuing your passion and I look forward to reading more of your writing. All the best!
